Making Space Mission Possible.

Because exploration should not be exclusive to governments and agencies with big budgets, we make space accessible to dreamers, startups, and emerging nations ready to launch.

Simplicity is key, even in the space sector.

"We replace hardware racks with code that runs anywhere."

Remos was built to simplify and modernize satellite ground communications. The shift is away from fixed hardware procurement — toward adaptable software, cloud-edge deployment, and faster operational iteration.

Rooted in PhD research at Luleå University of Technology and developed alongside real satellite operations with the Swedish Space Corporation (now SSC Space), Remos delivers API-first control without the drag of legacy hardware.

From PhD research to operational ground networks.

Remos was founded in 2021 by three principals from Luleå University of Technology: Dr. Moses Browne Mwakyanjala (CEO), Thilini Wijewarna Arachchi, and Petter Lindberg (COO). The company grew out of doctoral research on software-defined modems and adaptive ground-segment architectures.

Early work was done in partnership with the Swedish Space Corporation (now SSC Space), where the team prototyped the platform alongside live mission operations. Since then, Remos has been recognized in the NASA State-of-the-Art Small Spacecraft Technology Report two years running.

Today the company is headquartered in Luleå — far enough north to see what the rest of the continent can't — and remains wholly focused on making ground operations the least dramatic part of running a satellite mission.

You asked, we answered.

The questions we hear most often, answered directly.
What is the system architecture (hardware vs. software split)?

Remos solutions are based on a software-defined modem (SDR) architecture.

  • Modems (Expedite, Hasten) run on standard compute, on-premise or in the cloud.
  • They interface with RF front-ends and antenna systems.
  • They can be delivered as software-only modems, integrated subsystems (modem + sequencer), or full turnkey ground stations.

This ensures flexibility and avoids hardware lock-in.

What are the key differences between Expedite and Hasten?

Expedite:

  • 100 baud → 25 Mbaud
  • Optimized for TT&C and NewSpace missions
  • Supports CCSDS and vendor protocols including GomSpace, EnduroSat, GAUSS, and AAC Clyde Space.

Hasten:

  • Up to 315 Mbaud
  • Optimized for high-rate payload downlink
  • Supports CCSDS TM and DVB-S2X.
What interfaces and integration points are available?

The modems provide standard integration interfaces:

  • TCP/IP data streaming
  • REST APIs for configuration and control
  • WebSockets for telemetry and monitoring

They integrate with SDR/RF front-ends, antenna control systems, and mission control software.

Which transceivers and protocols are supported?

Remos systems are compatible with a wide range of commercial platforms, including GomSpace (AX100, AX2150), Satlab, EnduroSat, GAUSS, AAC Clyde Space, ISIS, and others.

Supported protocols include CCSDS (TM/TC), AX.25, CSP and vendor-specific implementations, and custom protocol extensions.

What RF performance and waveform capabilities are available?

Frequency range is approximately 70 MHz to 6 GHz, depending on deployment.

Available modulations include BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, FSK, GMSK, PCM/PM, PCM/PSK/PM, and others.

Data rates include 100 baud → 25 Mbaud for Expedite and up to 315 Mbaud for Hasten.

  • Doppler compensation using TLE, ephemeris, or closed-loop methods
  • Software-configurable waveforms
  • High-stability timing support
Can the system scale from CubeSats to high-throughput missions?

Yes. The architecture supports low-rate TT&C for single satellites, high-rate payload downlink, and multi-satellite or constellation operations.

Scaling is achieved through software and computing resources rather than hardware replacement.

What is Umoja and how does it integrate into operations?

Umoja is Remos' ground segment orchestration and mission service control (MSC) platform.

  • Native management of Remos modems and ground stations
  • Scheduling, automation, and network orchestration across multiple sites
  • Integration with third-party modems, antennas, and GSaaS networks
  • Interfaces to external mission control systems

Umoja enables a full-stack ground segment, particularly valuable for constellation operators needing unified control across hybrid ground networks.

Can the modem be deployed on existing infrastructure and what are the commercial terms?

Yes. Remos supports software-only deployment on existing ground stations with existing SDRs and RF chains, with minimal hardware changes required.

Commercial models include perpetual or term-based licensing, on-premise or cloud deployment, technical onboarding, documentation, and support. Customization is available as needed.
